On November 17, Will Bostelman, president and CEO of The Swingset Co., appeared on “Lenz On Business,” a one-hour business talk program, which airs weekly on WSB Radio in Atlanta. Will shared his unorthodox path toward owning and operating the business, how he approaches various challenges, his value of strong customer relations, and much more.

Will kicked off the show by sharing his background and what brought him to The Swingset Co. While working for the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, he found himself touring businesses throughout the state.

Later on, Will, who has a deep passion for woodworking, came across The Swingset Co., a business specializing in wooden premium playsets, which happened to be for sale.

That awareness changed after Will explored The Swingset Co.’s 15,000 square-foot facility where playsets made of high quality wood were being manufactured using a variety of tools, some of which he was quite familiar with. Having seen the impressive product, met the team, and learned about the countless satisfied customers from throughout the country, Will said to himself, “I think this is it. Let’s make some swingsets and make families happy.” After much discernment, he purchased the company.

Will spent the remainder of the show sharing a myriad of his experiences as a business owner. One in particular was how he approaches the logistical issues The Swingset Co. faces when getting its products in the hands of its customers.

The swingsets are not only manufactured in house, but the staff pre-assembles the complicated parts, allowing the customers the opportunity to simply screw them together. Then comes the packing and shipping, which Will initially found daunting and incredibly labor intensive. Yet he said he and his team hunkered down and figured out the best ways to streamline the process, moving the products out the door and into their customers’ backyards as swiftly as possible.

Other topics ran the gamut from how he chooses the perfect wood for their products to guiding customers toward the right playsets, and empowering them with the confidence and guidance to install the swingsets themselves.
